Knowing God's Word

  • The Knowing God’s Word campership program gives children and youth an opportunity to learn scripture and

earn a partial scholarship for overnight camp.

A campership covers half the cost of one week of overnight camp, a value of $130. Camperships are funded

by donations from CSBC friends and supporters.

Camperships do not apply to day camps.

Each year, our scripture memory course focuses on a book of the Bible. This year we have compiled a list of

verses from The Book of Psalms. We hope these selected verses will encourage campers to trust God and

    worship him in all circumstances.

Campers who register for the Knowing God’s Word campership program must recite all verses from one of

three verse lists, according to their grade level:

    Grades 2-4 - Level 1 - 24 verses

    Grades 5-7 - Level 2 - 36 verses

    Grades 8-12 - Level 3 - 48 verses

Your child should recite verses to an adult hearer outside of your family (neighbor, friend, church worker).

The hearer will sign a Recitation Log, which you will need to turn in when your child has finished.

All Campers must recite all verses from their list by Sunday, June 1.

To register your child for the Knowing God’s Word campership program, complete the form below.

Before you register, please read through each information tab below.

Register your child by Friday, February 28.

We encourage parents and children to learn these verses together. Memorizing scripture is for all ages!

  • How your child can earn a campership for overnight camp:

    1. Get ready to memorize God’s word.

    - Pray for God’s help. Scripture memory work is not easy.

    2. Register for the Knowing God’s Word campership program.

    - Register by Friday, February 28.

    - Complete the online registration form below.

    - Let us know on the form if you would like to receive a print copy of the verse list.

    3. Work hard to learn verses.

    - Devote time each day to learning new verses and reviewing old verses.

    - Work together as a family and recite verses to one another. Challenge each other.

    - Prepare your child to recite verses fluently (with no more than two mistakes) to an adult hearer.

    4. Have your child recite verses to an adult hearer.

    - Hearers should normally be outside of your family (neighbor, friend, church worker, etc.).

    - Having a consistent hearer is not necessary.

    - Adult family members may act as hearers, but for no more than six units.

    - Meet with a hearer. Prepare to recite at least one unit each meeting.

    - Bring a copy of the verse list and the Recitation Log.

    - A hearer is not responsible for teaching memory verses.

    - A hearer will listen carefully for a successful recitation (no more than two mistakes per verse).

    - After successful recitation of a unit, your hearer will sign the Recitation Log.

    5. Send progress reports.

    - After every third unit, send a brief progress report to verses@cumberlandsprings.org.

    - After the last unit, turn in a copy (or picture) of the completed “Recitation Log”.

    Important Notes:

    - All campers must recite all verses from their list by Sunday, June 1. Start memorizing as soon as possible.

-You must also complete the 2025 Camp Registration Form (available online). This form holds your child’s

place at camp. You may register for camp before your child finishes the campership program.

  • Tips for Memorizing Scripture

    1. Set a regular time and place to memorize.

-Limit distractions as much as possible.

    2. Read the verse out loud.

    - Repeat ten times, including the verse reference.

    - There is no easy substitute for repetition.

    - As you read, use (or make up) hand motions to go along with the words.

    - As you repeat, try to find a rhythm to follow.

    3. Break up the verse into smaller parts to memorize.

    - Read the first part. Then say it without looking ten times.

    - Read the second part. Then say the first and second parts without looking ten times.

    - Follow the same process, until you can say all parts together without looking.

    - Take a break. Come back to that verse later.

    4. Review verses you have learned.

    - When you have learned a verse, you can recite it throughout the day.

  • You can download a digital copy (PDF) of your child’s verse list and the Recitation Log below.
